FLORENCE, AL – The University of North Alabama Percussion Ensemble has been selected to perform at the 2024 Percussive Arts Society International Convention that recently wrapped up in Indianapolis, Ind., at the Indianapolis Convention Center.
“The ensemble was selected by a committee that reviewed several years of performances by the group to select the ensemble to perform a 90-minute program,” said Dr. Tracy Wiggins, Assistant Director of University Bands and Coordinator of Percussion Studies. “This is the longest performance slot allotted to a university ensemble at the annual convention.”
The convention features concerts, clinics, panels, and presentations from artists around the world. Students have the opportunity to learn more about drum set, marching, keyboard, world, recreational, education, music technology, and new music.
The UNA Percussion Ensemble performed the New Literature Session, which features works that have to have been composed within the last five years.
“I am very proud of the students who rehearsed for and performed at this distinguished event,” said Dr. Wiggins. “They worked hard to achieve this goal, and it is certainly a feather in the cap for them as well as UNA and UNA Band.”
